Some Recycled Glass Cabochons

It's been ages since I have used my kiln, but yesterday a friend came over who wanted to do some enamelling, so I took the opportunity to make some more recycled glass cabs.

Most of the pieces are from the Thames of course, but a couple of  them are actually sea glass (most noticeably the large purple and clear 'multi' in the middle, and the green one to the left). I wanted to see what would happen to sea glass in the kiln.
Well - it  turns shiny again. Which can be good if that's what you are after.
I gave all of these pieces a soaking in matting salts to give them a frosted finish. In case of the sea glass it's cheating I suppose, but it was just an experiment...

I have no idea how I am going to use them - I guess I'll have to work on getting my creative muse back!

  2. Lovely finish to them! I have bowls of this stuff from all over, but I always struggle with the finish. You also have some really nice shapes - can't wait to see what you do with your treasures

  3. Amazing what you can do with a bit of old Thames glass, great to see how productive you are being. Julia
